Basic Policy

This privacy policy is in accordance with that of the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES).

NIES collects user information on the GOSAT-GW TANSO-3 Product Archive (G3PA) site (hereinafter the “G3PA Site") to the extent necessary for the smooth operation of the services provided on the, such as provision of information on the G3PA Site and reception of inquiries. The collected information will be handled appropriately within the scope of the purpose of use.

Personal information will be managed appropriately in accordance with the NIES Personal Information Protection Policy (Japanese version only).

Personal Information Handling Policy

Scope of Information to be Collected

The service of the G3PA Site uses authentication using an email address and password. The information required for user registration is as follows.

  • Email address
  • Country or region
  • Screen display language (Japanese or English)
  • Purpose of data use

When applying for registration as an authorized user*, information certifying eligibility as an authorized user (name, institution, department, user category etc.) needs to be presented in addition to the information required for general user registration in (1) a) above.

The G3PA Site automatically collects information such as access date and time, IP address, the type and version of browser used, pages browsed, and site search query information, when browsing the G3PA Site. Note that cookies (information sent from the server to the user's browser and stored on the user's computer in order for the server to identify the user) are not used for anything other than accurately tracking the number of accesses and improving the convenience of the browser display function. When accepting inquiries, user's name, institution/affiliation, telephone number, and email address may be asked as necessary.

Purpose of Use

The collected information will be used for the following purposes.

Information collected in (1) a) above will be used for the services provided on the G3PA Site.

Information collected in (1) a) and d) above may be used as a reference for the smooth operation of the services provided on the G3PA Site in the following cases.

  • Providing information from the NIES GOSAT-GW Project.
  • Responding to inquiries or contacting for confirmation. In addition, depending on the content of the inquiry, the email address and other information may be transferred to the relevant departments in NIES, and the relevant ministries and agencies.

Information collected in (1) b) above will be used only for confirming the user’s eligibility to register as an authorized user, and will not be used for the services on the G3PA Site.

Information collected in (1) c) above will be used as reference for analyzing usage trends of users to improve the convenience of the services provided on the G3PA Site.

Cookies (Purpose of Use)

The G3PA Site uses the following cookies. Cookies are used to switch the display language on the G3PA Site (Japanese/English), maintain processing states across multiple pages, and collect statistical information such as browsing of the G3PA Site. Personal information will not be collected through the use of cookies.
